The Real Issue about abusing your smartphone

I am sure that most of you have read or seen those articles on how your smartphones are ruining your lives. There are many issues like nerve damage, disruption of the sleep wake cycle, the mobile phone’s screen is also said to have more bacteria than a toilet seat, harmful radiations, weakening of eye sight etc. But since we are exposed to so much information these days we don’t know what to take seriously and what to ignore.

In 2011 a study was conducted on 1000 students across 10 different countries, the students were asked to avoid cell phones, social networking and their laptops for 24 hours. It was found that a majority of the students failed and also reported feeling isolated, confused, and physically distressed during the 24 hour period.

Why is this such a pressing issue and how does it affect you, here are a few questions that you should ask yourself-

1 Can I stay without my phone for an hour? Don’t lie to yourself when you are answering this because you aren’t fooling anyone but yourself.
2 Is there something that I am trying to escape by keeping myself busy on the mobile? Eg. It can be a negative emotion, an overwhelming thought etc.
3 Do I feel lost when I am not using my phone? Introspection is the key to understanding!

The biggest issue is that we have no real or quality time for the things that actually matter. We hardly allow ourselves to think anymore. Since when, has being alone with our thoughts become such a scary idea?

Think about allowing yourself to think.
